This book is filled with suspense, mystery and action. When reading Amazon's review, they describe the main character Noa as smart, tough, and complex as a young Lisbeth Sandler from The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo. The first chapter definitely grabs the reader's attention as Noa wakes up on an operating table with no knowledge of what was done to her and where she is. The chapters then begin to switch between her and Peter, a teenager who is the creator of /ALLIANCE/, a site that tracks down bullies, sexual predators, and animal abusers and wreaks digital havoc on them. Another important point is that Peter had an older brother who died of a mysterious disease that is fatal to teenagers called PEMA. When Noa escapes her captors she has to go off the grid and enlists Peter's help, who she knows because she is a major hacker for /ALLIANCE/. Both characters are unique and readers will want to know them better, and they have authentic teen voices (Peter more so than Noa). As they run from the people who are after Noa, they learn that Noa and her captors were experimenting with live (teenage) subjects to find a cure for PEMA. Peter and Noa run through Boston trying to find answers, take down the bad guys, and save other teens who may have been experimented on. Both boys and girls will love this book as female and male voices are equally represented. Noa is especially entertaining as a tough hacker, who is a refreshing independent, smart female character. The action is non-stop and will keep readers turning the page. It can definitely be classified as a first-rate teen thriller even non-readers will enjoy. The second book in the series is Don't Look Now, and the last book in the trilogy is being published in August 2014. |
