Jacqueiline Woodson
Ms. Woodson tells the story of growing up in South Carolina, and then Brooklyn, and how she always felt part of both worlds. As she travels between the South and North, the reader understands how both parts of the country made her and her family who they are. Each family member Woodson introduces becomes as important to us as they are to her.
Most important, the story describes how Ms. Woodson found herself in words and stories. As a person who never felt smart or special, the section of the book when Woodson discovers her love and talent for words and stories is a highlight. It also reinforces how everyone has something special in them; it may just take a bit longer for some to find. An essential read that is also thoroughly enjoyable!
